Thanks to additive manufacturing, the VAEN Saddle is a high-performance, ergonomic, and unique design bike saddle. To create a high-performance saddle, we’re constantly looking for the best lightweight solution and confort designing an adaptative and nature inspired lattice structure.

Thanks to additive manufacturing, the VAEN Saddle is a high-performance, ergonomic, and unique design bike saddle.

To create a high-performance saddle, we’re constantly looking for the best lightweight solution and the highest support that the saddle can provide to the cyclists by parametric designing a nature inspired lattice structure.

One of the main differentiating elements of VAEN saddle is the layered construction. This allows the use of the best performing materials for each of the areas:

  1. The outer layer could be 3D printed, injected or trimmed and the material that constitutes it has the adequate features for friction, breathability and confort during ride.
  2. The middle layer is a 3D printed voronoi lattice structure with flexible material adequate for shock absorption and confort.
  3. The hard base could be 3D printed with carbon fiber-based materials or injected with high-strength plastics.

Ergonomic means comfortable and completely customizable in VAEN, we believe that more progressive customization will be the future of saddle ergonomics, and 3D printing will play a key role in that regard.

As if it were an organic growth, we algorithmically design a lattice structure generated from the unique pressure map of each cyclist to achieve density variations that guarantee maximum comfort by reducing pressure peaks.

After all, the idea of this project is to take advantage of 3D printing and topology optimization and let the computer to create a highly optimized concept, but its design intent, form language, CMF and experience are still our jobs as human designer.
